Nokia, once the pioneer of mobile phones has made a strong comeback by launching these three devices - Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 in early 2017. Later this year, they also introduced their high-end Nokia 8. It looks like, Nokia or rather HMD Global is not gonna stop here. Recently, the leaks and renders of two new devices - Nokia 9 and Nokia 2 surfaced on the Internet.
Nokia 2, suggestive of its low number in its name, is clearly a budget device. A few days ago, famous leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) posted the images of Nokia 2 on Twitter. These pictures are more likely to be the final renders as the launch is rumored to happen by the end of September or early October. The images also keep a close resemblance to those released by Nokiapoweruser back in August.
Nokia 2 will supposedly have 4 variants (TA-1007, TA-1035, TA-1023 and TA-1029) across the globe, which means that each location will receive the best-suited variant. You can read more about the variants here.
According to Nokiapoweruser, Nokia 2 is expected to come with a 4.7 to 5-inch LCD display with HD resolution (1280x720), Snapdragon 212, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB Internal Memory with microSD card support, 8MP rear camera with an LED flash, 5MP front camera and a 4000 mAh battery. Pricing is expected to be around Rs. 7,999 in India.
Nokia 9 is going to be Nokia's flagship for the year 2017. From the image posted by a user on Chinese website Baidu, we can see that the rear side of Nokia 9 sports a 3D Glass panel, dual Zeiss branded cameras, an LED flash, and a fingerprint scanner. The image also shows a power button and volume rockers on the right side. Nokia 9 will come with top of the line specs as well. As per the recent listing on GFXBench, Nokia 9 may sport a 5.2 or a 5.3-inch display with 2560x1440 resolution(most probably AMOLED). Schematic images posted by Nokiapoweruser back in July and some images surfacing on Twitter shows a bezel-less display just like Samsung Galaxy S8. Speaking about the internals, Nokia 9 may come with Snapdragon 835 processor, 4/6/8GB of RAM, 64/128 GB of Internal Memory.
Since Nokia 9 is a flagship, we can expect some features that the Nokia 8 lacks right now, like the IP68 dust and water resistance, wireless charging, better camera, bezel-less display, etc. As there is no confirmation regarding the specs, take it with a pinch of salt.
HMD Global offered sub-par performance with Nokia 3 at a price of around Rs.10,000. On that note, we cannot expect more from Nokia 2 and it is clearly targeted at those people who look at Nokia as a trustworthy brand with a nostalgic factor. Its success will be highly dependent on the pricing. Nokia 2 is going to face tight competition in the budget segment from a ton of devices - Redmi 4A, Redmi 4, 10.or E, Moto C, C Plus and E4.
