HTC is all set to launch two new devices - The flagship U11 Plus and the mid-range U11 Life on November 2nd, that is today. We have already seen a ton of leaks and rumors regarding the devices, but recently a hands-on video featuring both the upcoming HTC devices went online. It was posted by a Swiss publication Blick and went viral on social media.
The video gives a detailed look on both smartphones. The HTC U11 Plus, as expected, comes with a tall display having 18:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels. It has essentially the same internals of current flagship - HTC U11 but in a newly designed chassis. The first notable difference apart from the display is the absence of capacitive navigation keys and the front mounted fingerprint scanner. The capacitive keys have been replaced with on-screen buttons and the fingerprint scanner is given a new position on the back of the device, below the camera module. The video shows 2 additional buttons on the on-screen navigation bar apart from the regular home, recent apps and back button, which clearly indicates the presence of a customizable navigation bar.
The squeeze functionality has become a norm on HTC flagships and U11 Plus will also feature the same as demonstrated in the video. While the earlier leaks have mentioned the presence of squeeze functionality on the smaller U11 Life also, but nothing has been mentioned about it in the video. This doesn't necessarily mean that the U11 Life will not have the feature.
The U11 Plus has the same glossy reflective back panel as its predecessor and the trend extends to U11 Life also. Apart from the camera module, fingerprint and LED flash, the U11 Plus features HTC branding and a couple of microphones on the rear. Now coming to the U11 Life, it has the same old HTC design with capacitive navigation buttons and a home button with possibly the fingerprint scanner integrated into it. It is clear that the U11 Life is running on a stock version of Android and has an Android One branding on the rear.
The video also gives a short demonstration of the camera interfaces on both handsets. Both phones are rumored to run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
According to the previous leaks, the HTC U11 Plus is expected to feature a 6-inch QHD+ display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. The U11 Plus might sport a 12MP f/1.7 rear camera and an 8MP front camera. It is also rumored to have a 3930mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, HTC BoomSound and IP68 water resistance.
The HTC U11 Life, on the other hand, will most likely come with a 5.2-inch display, Snapdragon 630 SoC, 3GB/4GB RAM, and 32GB/64GB internal storage. As far as optics are concerned, it might feature a 16MP sensor on the front as well as on the back. U11 Life will be powered by a 2660mAh battery and have an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.
