Xiaomi could be working on a flagship smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. According to a reported posted on MySmartPrice, the Chinese smartphone maker could be getting ready to introduce a flagship phone as early as possible. With the company splitting up its Redmi series as a separate brand, the company is likely to amp up its game in the premium segment.

Coming to the discovery, the Geekbench listing showcases the handset to be named as Xiaomi Cepheus, which is likely to be the codename of the device. It is not unusual for these leaks to pop up early since the brands tend to test out their handsets for the benchmark scores. Geekbench is one of the popular apps if you’re aware of it already.
Xiaomi Cepheus: Could this be a new Redmi flagship phone?
Talking about the Geekbench score, the single-core score is measured at 3475 and the multi-core score at 10872. These numbers are quite staggering and could very well be of the Snapdragon 855. The official benchmark numbers of the new Qualcomm chipset isn’t out yet. And that’s a major reason for us to be skeptical of these numbers let alone this Geekbench leak.
Further, the Geekbench listing showcases that Xiaomi Cepheus would be sporting a 6GB of RAM and run on Android 9 Pie operating system. Of course, it would be implementing the MIUI 10 skin over the Android OS. There is not much leaked apart from the device name, processor, RAM, and operating system information.
One of the reasons to look forward to a Xiaomi flagship this year is because Xiaomi could include a 48MP resolution sensor on one of them. One of the previous reports mentioning the use of Sony’s new Sensor also stated that a Redmi phone could end up housing one. Maybe that’s why Xiaomi is splitting its Redmi series as a sub-brand so that it can release more high-powered smartphones under that brand.
