A 48MP camera Xiaomi device scheduled for launch in January

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi Mix 3 flagship in China. In India, the company recently launched the Redmi Note 6 Pro. However, if someone has been following Xiaomi for a while, they’d know that this company doesn’t sleep. Reports suggest that the company is already working on their next flagship device. And it seems like it would be carrying a pretty powerful camera.

Xiaomi Phone With 48-Megapixel Camera

Back in October, at the Qualcomm 4G/5G summit, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain had said that the company was working on a new smartphone for next year. The said device would come with the Snapdragon 675 processor. A key highlight of this processor is that it supports cameras up to 48-megapixel sensor. Now, Xiaomi’s President has teased a photo of the upcoming device on his Weibo channel.

The image only shows a portion of the upcoming smartphone. However, it confirms that the rear lens will sport a 48-megapixel camera sensor. He further states that he has been using the device for a couple of weeks already. It seems like the device is ready and will be launched in January 2019.

What about the specifications?

As of now, not much is known about this device apart from the processor which is the Snapdragon 675. It is based on the 11nm architecture and integrates an octa-core Kryo 460 CPU alongside an enhanced AI Engine. As for the camera sensor, Sony had launched the Sony IMX586 sensor back in July with effective 48-megapixels with minute 0.8-micron pixels. As such, it’s quite possible that the Xiaomi phone in question could sport the same camera sensor.

For now, we have no word on the actual name of the device. However, the launch date for January has already been confirmed. As such, it is only a matter of weeks till we get the full spec sheet. Till then, stay tuned to Mr. Phone for all the updates in the world of smartphones.
