There have been more than one instances of reports that that the iPhone X is dead. However, if a report by Strategy Analytics is to be believed, it is very much alive and kicking. The research for the first quarter of 2018 states that the Apple iPhone X is number one in terms of sales. It has outranked all the other smartphones including Apple’s own iPhone 8.
Interestingly, Apple doesn’t tell how many units they sell each quarter. As per their projection, Apple could have sold as much as 16 million units of iPhone X. That leaves the iPhone 8 far behind at 12.5 million at number two and the iPhone 8 Plus is even lower in the pecking order with an estimate of 8.3 million units. The fourth spot is occupied with yet another Apple device, the iPhone 7 with 5.6 million units which is quite impressive.
Despite Apple’s feats, overall the first quarter of 2018 still saw a slump in fortunes. Around 345 million units were shipped globally which is low compared to last year’s 353 million units.
Apple also dominated the market share unsurprisingly with the iPhone X once again topping the chart with 4.6% share. For a detailed overview of the study, take a look at the chart above.
“Apple has now shifted almost 50 million iPhone X units worldwide since commercial launch in November 2017. The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus shipped 12.5 and 8.3 million units, respectively, for second and third place,” Juha Winter, Senior Analyst for Strategy Analytics, stated in the company’s announcement.
