We didn’t seen many launches from Blackberry last year apart from the Blackberry Motion. However, the year has just begun and it appears Blackberry is readying a new device with its traditional QWERTY keypad. A new report by Digital Trends suggests a device named Blackberry Uni is in the works and maybe showcased at Mobile World Congress.
If the report is to be believed, the Blackberry Uni follows the Priv in the design aspect. Citing a recent patent, the report says that it might come with a curved display and a slide-out keyboard. Remarkably, the alleged Blackberry Uni could feature a dual camera setup. The primary lens would be behind the keyboard slider while the secondary lens stays out all the time. Hence, the dual camera can only be used when the keyboard is pulled out. The display of the rumoured device is assumed to be of 5.4-inches in size.
Other than the patent, there’s no leaked render or rumour regarding the speculated device. As for specs, the report draws its information from a Geekbench report from last year. The Geekbench report sighted a model BBF100-1 which is presumed to be the Blackberry Uni. If that is true, the device will be an upper mid-tier device with a Snapdragon 660 CPU and 6 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, it would have room for 32GB / 64GB of internal storage.
Obviously, there’s nothing known about the software, but with a launch in mid-2018, we can at least expect Blackberry to put an Android Oreo build on the Priv successor.
Its been two years since the Blackberry Priv launched and the handset did pretty well with Blackberry enthusiasts so there’s reason to believe Blackberry might bring it back. Let’s hope we see more of it at MWC which kicks off on February 26th.
