BSNL will finally start providing its 4G services from January 2018 and it will be available in Kerela from the next month! The services will then be extended to Odisha, as stated by a company official. The state-owned telecom company is finally realizing the importance of 4G VoLTE and coming up with a much-needed move.
Launching its services on the LTE (Long Term Evolution) Route will improve their customer base and experience, the company believes. It is a good time for BSNL to launch into this area since the telecom operators like Jio and Airtel are providing faster internet at throwaway prices.
The Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, Mr. Anupam Shrivastava commented, “We are going to start 4G from Kerala. That will be our first circle on 4G LTE. We will initially focus on those areas where 3G coverage is low.” The service will then be extended in Odisha which is a very important customer base for BSNL.
BSNL currently has a 5 MHz spectrum in the 2100 MHz band which will be enough for starting the 4G services in Kerela. However, the company is expecting to raise sufficient funds from the state for adding another 5 MHz in the 2100 MHz band. The company says that once they get the additional spectrum, they will shoot off the launch of its 4G services in states like Hyderabad, Bangalore etc.
In the words of Mr. Shrivastava, “Once the additional 5MHz spectrum comes to us, we will start rolling out in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other places. So the network will become 2G, 3G, and 4G with enhanced data capability.”
BSNL has a huge customer base of 10 crore users in India excluding Mumbai and Delhi and the company is all set to release 10,000 new mobile towers by March next year.
Shrivastava also mentioned that the company will have a different brand identity once the 4G services start rolling out and it will be revealed with the rollout as well!
