This is no secret after Google embraced the foldable smartphones when it announced Android support for this form factor. That a foldable pixel phone might be in the work. Now a fresh report coming from the Google I/O event regarding it. The Head of Google Pixel development has told some interesting development happening at Google as far as the foldable tech is confirmed. The statement was originally issued to CNET.
Google Pixel Foldable Phone
“We’re definitely prototyping the technology. We’ve been doing it for a long time. I don’t think there’s a clear use case yet” — Mario Queiroz. This statement has us intrigued that Google is indeed doing something regarding the foldable tech. Since it is considered the future of smartphones. And if Google wants its Pixel hardware line-up to be still alive when the shift comes. They might not want to be behind.
While the foldable smartphone technology is still at its nascent stage. A proper foldable smartphone is yet to go live for purchase. The Galaxy Fold has been delayed due to problems reported by initial users and Huawei Mat X is nowhere near close for its official availability announcement.
I guess we will all just have to wait a lot to go hands-on with a foldable tech that’s as rigid as the existing form factor.
Mario Queiroz also agrees on the fact that a foldable phone is a “nice-to-have” feature. But the general public might not be ready for this tech, irrespective of the fact that manufacturers have not succeeded in displaying a good one.
We wouldn’t tie a knot on this one yet, as foldable display tech needs a big win in order to be successful at the market. Maybe that’s why Google is only exploring this technology as far as the above statement is concerned. And might not have any concrete plans to launch one any time soon.
