Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge is due to receive Android Oreo but that is still a bit far off. Even the Galaxy S8/ S8 Plus Android Oreo beta is still a fresh memory. However, in a rare occurrence, a Vietnam Galaxy S7 Edge user got an Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update recently.
That is somewhat bizarre as Samsung hasn’t even started a beta program of the Galaxy S7 Edge Oreo. Also, as Samsung Galaxy S8 users still haven’t received a stable build the situation is quite comical. Samsung is one of the laziest when it comes to OS updates of non-flagships. But this is just a solitary case. No other reports of the OTA are coming out now. This must have been an administrative error from the Samsung software development division.
As for the OTA build of Android Oreo, the kind user was good enough to post screenshots of the build. The Android Oreo build tips the scales at 1.4 GB and has a build number G935FXXU2ERB2. Like we said, no other such cases have been reported but if we do hear more, we’ll let you know.
A similar thing happened with the Galaxy Note 8 as a number of users took to Reddit to report a stable Oreo update for their Exynos Note 8. However, this is much less freaky than the S7 Edge incident. As such, Samsung must be in final stages to roll out the OTA to the Galaxy Note 8.
