Honor 8X/8X Max with high-end processors, water-drop notch launched

Honor 8X - Colours

The Honor 7X is what put Huawei’s sub-brand on India’s budget smartphone map in early 2018. Now, it’s September and we’re witnessing the launch of its sequel, the Honor 8X. Thankfully, the Honor 8X brings a lot of reasons if you want to upgrade over its predecessor. Also, now we have 7+ inch Honor 8X Max, much like Xiaomi has a Mi Max which is an enlarged version of its Redmi Note series. Below are the specifications of the two devices.

The Honor 8X comes with a renovation in looks and feel. It has the water-drop notch which is perhaps the first at its price point to do so. This also brings good screen-to-body ratio and makes the notch much more bearable. The rear has also undergone some cosmetic changes bring a glossy look to the phone as compared to the matte feel of the Honor 7X. The rear cameras are placed vertically on the top left corner and there’s an Honor branding right at the bottom corner.

As for the specifications, the Honor 8X features a large 6.5-inch display with a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio coupled with a new Kirin 710 chipset. Well, it’s true. Earlier it was believed to come this or a Snapdragon SoC. GPU Turbo also is onboard the handset.

There are a few pleasant surprises on the camera side of things too. The rear houses a very powerful 20MP + 2MP duo with the regular dose of AI quirks and a 16MP selfie shooter. There’s a 3,750mAh battery that supports fast charge. Obviously, it would be too much to expect Android Pie from this budget device. Hence, it runs Android Oreo topped with EMUI 8.2. It is available in Black, Red, Blue, and Light Purple colour options.

The Honor 8X Max is more than just an Honor 8X with a bigger footprint. Hence it has a bigger 7.12-inch screen and a 5,000mAh battery. It replaces the Kirin chipsets and features either a Snapdragon 636 or 660 depending upon the variant you choose.  It does have Dolby Surround sound which is an added advantage over it’s smaller sibling. Also, the rear camera is different. It is a 16MP + 2MP setup for the rear. Below is the pricing of both the handsets and their variants.
