Honor 9 Lite vs Moto G5s Plus: which is the best phone under Rs 15,000?

The Indian smartphone market is growing exponentially with budget brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Honor, Oppo etc leading it. Since we are an emerging economy, the under Rs 15,000 segment is densely and diversely populated. Companies are understanding the needs and want of Indian consumers and hence, some powerful budget devices have arrived in the market.

However, it is not always easy to choose from a million good options. Today, we are going to compare two devices which provide a seamless smartphone experience – the Honor 9 Lite and the Moto G5s Plus. While the former has launched recently, the latter is known for its strong build and performance. Let’s look at both of these smartphones in detail:

Honor 9 Lite vs Moto G5s Plus: build and design

Honor 9 Lite

The Honor 9 Lite is a treat for the eyes at such an affordable price. It has a double-sided 2.5D glass design with an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The device does look stylish but the all-glass rear panel is not anti-fingerprint. As soon as you hold the phone, your fingers will make new designs on the panel and it will diminish its style statement to a level. Better carry a clean cloth with you at all times. The frame of the phone is made out of plastic and provides a solid grip to the device.

Honor 9 Lite

The rear panel of the phone is made out of glass but seems metallic from a distance. This is because the glass is glossy and to a level where it can reflect everything perfectly. Due to its plastic frame, the Honor 9 Lite is uncannily lightweight and while some people prefer it, others don’t. The power and volume buttons are also made out of plastic and are comfortable to use. The texture of both the buttons is similar, so it will be a little difficult for you to adjust to them. The fingerprint sensor is present on the rear side, beneath the horizontal camera setup.

Moto G5s Plus

The Moto G5s Plus has an all-metal build. The phone looks and feels a little bulky but it’s a positive trait. The frame on the sides is also made of metal and hence, the device feels more comfortable to hold. Coming to the volume rockers and power button, made out of metal with different textures, the buttons take ease of use to another level. After using the device for two days, I was able to distinguish between the two buttons even in the dark.

However, the all-metal rear panel of the phone makes it slippery and more prone to accidental damage. I have been using it since four months and I have already dropped it a couple of times. So, if you are buying this phone, you will have to put some extra pressure while holding it from the back. Unlike the Honor 9 Lite, the fingerprint sensor resides on the front, beneath the display.

The bezels on the phone are huge and when I say huge, I mean massive. Due to these bezels, the phone does look 2016-ish but hey, are looks that important at all?

Honor 9 Lite vs Moto G5s Plus – display

Honor 9 Lite

Honor 9 Lite’s display is probably its strongest attribute. The phone comes with 5.65-inch IPS LCD display which has an HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160p. The aspect ratio of the phone is 18:9 and due to this, it has minimum bezels.

Honor 9 Lite

The pixel density of the phone is 427ppi and it has a 76.12 screen-to-body ratio. The display is capable of producing attractive and crisp colours in all conditions. The phone looks quite premium and has an appeal of its own.

Moto G5s Plus

The Moto G5s Plus comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920p. The aspect ratio on the phone is 16:9 and it contains massive bezels on all sides. The phone has a pixel density of 401ppi with a 71.53 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Moto G5s Plus

The phone carries features like capacitive display which is scratch resistant and has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The navigation buttons are also housed on the display while there was enough space to put them on the bottom bezels. The looks of the phone are outdated but that can be attributed to its early release and well, Moto’s lack of creativity.
