Huawei’s sub-brand Honor had a launch event today with two devices going official in Beijing, China. The Honor 9i is one of them. However, don’t be fooled by the name though as it is a somewhat different device than the one launched in India last year. So let’s dig into it.
The Honor 9i does have some similarities with its namesake in India but the design is not one of them. It looks more like a Huawei P20 Lite relative. The device has some crazy new colors like Magic Night Black, Charm Sea Blue, Jade Green and Dream Purple. It is also a glass sandwiched design with 2.5D curved glass on both the front and rear. The rear specifically has many layers of nano-coating that create a sparkle effect. It is a fingerprint magnet though.
The Honor 9i has a 5.84-inch IPS display with Full HD+ resolution. Under the hood, Honor has fitted in a Kirin 659 SoC which is really a staple of budget Honor devices. The CPU is backed by 4GB of RAM and there are two storage options – 64GB and 128GB.
The Honor 9i is equipped with a potent 16MP front lens with a pixel size of 2.0μm. The company said that this would help better low-light performance. The rear has a 13MP + 2MP setup with PDAF, dual-tone LED Flash and fast autofocus.
