HTC has no big plans for the upcoming MWC 2018 expo, as far as smartphones are concerned. According to latest info, the troubled Taiwanese phone maker won’t show off its flagship at the international event. However, it has just shown off its flagship HTC U12, however not as an official announcement. Instead, HTC brought its flagship to demo its 5G capability at the Taiwan 5G Industry Alliance.
HTC had no plans to reveal that this undercover device was the HTC U12 flagship. It turned out that Evan Blass came to know about it and spilled the beans. According to Blass, the device which has high 5G data speed is codenamed HTC Imagine. HTC kept most of the device under wraps, so we wouldn’t see the full design, however, it was obvious, the display was an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The HTC U12 clocked download speeds of up to 810 MB approximately at the demo. Given that the handset will likely sport a Snapdragon 845, this is achievable as it would have an X20 LTE modem on board that promises 1.2 Gbps speeds.
Apparently, the demo was also caught on video and we have a short clip of it on Youtube which we’ll link below. The HTC U12 should launch after the MWC expo, sometime in March or April.
