New Huawei P20 prototype pics show dual cameras, no volume buttons or fingerprint reader

Huawei P20

The Huawei P20 has become one of the most followed series of devices due to its rumoured triple camera setup. In the past, we’ve been treated to 3D CAD videos of the entire series. The P20 series consists of the Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei P20, and Huawei P20 Plus.

Today live pictures of the standard Huawei P20 variant have appeared online from a reputable source. The leaked pictures are of an early prototype, claims the source. Astonishingly, the live prototype is nothing like the 3D CAD renders. We’ve got used to the idea of the P20 series featuring a notch by now. But these pictures don’t show a notch. Instead, they show very slim bezels on the top and bottom of the handset. One unique thing with the prototype is the absence of the physical volume buttons. In its place is some sort of touch indicators that might allow for touch volume controls. This is something completely new from Huawei.

Another big aspect is the missing third camera. We’re told that the Huawei P20 Plus variant will feature three cameras while the P20 will stay dual. Huawei’s invite for the March 27 event actually almost confirms three cameras. However, the 3D CAD renders we saw showed us the P20 to also feature the three lenses.
The prototype also doesn’t feature any physical fingerprint reader. It is entirely possible that Huawei will integrate an under-screen fingerprint sensor. But again, this is very different from the earlier leaked 3D CAD renders.

Additionally, Huawei will continue to keep its P series free of the 3.5mm headphone jack much to the dismay of many users. That rounds it up. Even though the source is in possession of the prototype, they haven’t shared specs details.
