Hold on tight because this report will prove to be a bumpy ride. Consumer Report has released a list of top ten camera smartphones. The report rates the camera capabilities of smartphones based on their resolution, visual noise, colour accuracy and dynamic range in video and still image. The report has crowned iPhone X as the winner and it is quite shocking for many people out there.
Consumer Report: what exactly has transpired
The iPhone 8 sits in the second position, followed by the iPhone 8 Plus. Now, some people will argue on this, for the latter has a dual camera setup while the former has a normal, single shooter. Consumer Report hasn’t provided any explanation on the matter as of now.
The interesting fact is that the whole list contains only Apple and Samsung phones. Yes, it almost looks weird and gives an impression of an internal comparison between the two. The list skips the Google Pixel phones as if they don’t exist. However, the Pixel 2 and 2XL were acclaimed numerous times for their impressive camera capabilities.
Here is the Consumer Report Top 10 camera smartphones list:
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- Galaxy S8+
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 6S Plus
- Galaxy S8
- Galaxy Note 8
- iPhone 7 Plus
- Galaxy S8 Active
Going by the list one can easily notice that even 2015’s iPhone 6S Plus has overthrown 2017’s finest offering, the Galaxy Note 8. The report clearly shows that the phones with same camera configurations, and capabilities per say, can score higher than the other.
The report reads, “In fact, the differences among this group are so small that they could be chalked up to variations in our test samples. As a prime illustration of this, the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and S8 Active phones use the same camera, but the S8+ appears a few spots ahead of the S8 and S8 Active.”
