You may be familiar with a signature feature of Android 8.0 Oreo which Google announced a while back. It was regarding providing a vendor interface (VI) to Android OS, to speed up the task of rolling out updates. It was called as Project Treble.
That has been a major drawback of the Android world for ages, hasn’t it? Apart from the Nexus and Pixel owners, pretty much every other company delayed the firmware updates to their phones because of obvious development delays. That will supposedly be solved by project treble. But looks like OnePlus will not “settle” for google’s choices.
They have officially said that the OnePlus 5 and the new 5T will not have support for Project Treble in them whatsoever. That’s a shame because the tweaks would have significantly decreased the delay before we receive an OTA update. But I guess that is not happening with the company that never settles.
