HMD Global’s top officials have said that Nokia will treat its fans with a show at the upcoming MWC 2018. The company is expected to reveal many new devices at the annual trade show. Amongst them is the Nokia 7 Plus. The Nokia 7 Plus is a sort of upgraded Nokia 7 that only launched in China last year.
We’ll cover everything that is known about the Nokia 7 Plus in this article. The handset is turning out to be an interesting device as far as reports and renders have proven it. Let’s see what we can expect from the Nokia 7 Plus.
The first reference to the Nokia 7 Plus was found oddly 2 months back in a camera APK. The camera APK belonging to Nokia was unpacked to reveal the entire list of released and unreleased phones. Amongst the latter were Nokia 4, and Nokia 7 Plus. This first reference gave us just a hint that such a particular device is in the works.
Another significant sighting of the unreleased Nokia 7 Plus was a bit more interesting. The handset was reportedly spotted on popular benchmark GeekBench. The Nokia 7 Plus was seen running on a Snapdragon 660 SoC, a sizable upgrade from the Snapdragon 630 chip on the Nokia 7. However, this would also bump up the price of the handset considerably.
Among other specs, the benchmark reported the 4GB RAM variant and Android Oreo on the phone. By now we still haven’t seen the actual physical design of the handset. However, the specifications tell us it will be an upper-mid-tier device.
We close in on the specs sheet of the Nokia 7 Plus, this time courtesy of a Chinese source in early February. This leak would give us a very clear idea of the handset’s capabilities. The device is reportedly packing a 6-inch display. This is the first time we learn that the handset would sport a narrow-bezel design following popular trend. The source reports an 18:9 aspect ratio on the front panel.
Moreover, the handset is reported to house a duo of 12MP + 13MP Carl Zeiss sensors on the back, while a single 16MP sensor is tipped to be unsurprisingly sitting at the front. Other noteworthy features that were rumoured include a metal body, a ceramic rear fingerprint reader, and 18W quick charge support. We still haven’t heard much of the battery capacity yet.
Nokia 7 Plus first image leak
The first image leak was very sketchy but it was at least better than nothing. Again, it too appeared close to the beginning of February. The new leaked image cemented the previous specs and gave us still more idea of the features. It showed the rear camera would be featuring 2x zoom and dual pixel technology. Moreover, the front camera would be equipped with slow-mo, bothie, and beauty mode features.
Latest image leak
We haven’t had many image leaks of the Nokia 7 Plus. But this one just landed days back. And coming from Evan Blass, it was a very clear one. The render from Blass was like almost an official render. It came with one previously unknown detail. The Nokia 7 Plus had an Android One branding at the back. This means that it would come with vanilla Android out of the box. That is good news even though Nokia’s skin on top of Android is almost stock. However, the Android One branding virtually guarantees you timely updates for 2 years.
Lastly, we witnessed a live image of the Nokia 7 Plus that all but confirmed its front design. This leak surfaced just a day or two back from the time we wrote this article.
Nokia still hasn’t explicitly stated that it will reveal a Nokia 7 Plus at MWC 2018. However, it seems like a candidate alongside the Nokia 4, Nokia 9, and Nokia 1.
That said, what do you expect from Nokia at MWC 2018. Let us know in the comments section below.
