Nokia 8.1 launched, brings Snapdragon 710 and Android 9 Pie

HMD Global’s Dubai event of #ExpectMore has finally come to an end, with the company launching the much awaited Nokia 8.1. The Nokia 8.1 is the global variant of the Nokia X7 that was launched in China in October, and the spiritual successor to the Nokia 7 Plus. It, however, brings forth the Android One programme like other HMD Global Nokia smartphones.

Nokia 8.1 specifications

The Nokia 8.1 packs in a  6.18-inch full-HD+ (1080×2244 pixels) display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It offers HDR10 support, 500 nits peak brightness, and is capable of a 96 percent color gamut. Under the hood, you get the latest Snapdragon 710 processor along with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM. As for storage, there is 64GB of internal storage which is also expandable via microSD card.

In the camera department, the Nokia 8.1 bears a dual rear camera setup with Zeiss optics. There’s a 12MP primary sensor alongside a 13MP depth sensor. Up front, there is a 20MP shooter for selfies. The camera also packs Nokia’s Bothie feature, which allows both the front and rear camera to used simultaneously. 

The Nokia 8.1 features a two-tone design and is built out of 6000-Series aluminum that has diamond cut edges. The company claims that it has been through two anodizing processes. There’s a 3,500mAh battery juicing up the setup, Lastly, the device runs Android 9 Pie out of the box and is part of the Android One programme.

Nokia 8.1 price in India and availability

The Nokia 8.1 has been launched globally at a price of EUR 399 (~Rs. 31,900). It will be available in Blue/ Silver, Steel/ Copper, and Iron/ Steel dual-tone color variants. As for India, HMD Global is said to host an event on December 10. It is touted that the company will be launching the Nokia 8.1 in India then.
