Unlike the majority of Chinese manufacturers, OnePlus does take good care of older devices in its portfolio with software updates. Case in point, the OnePlus 5, 5T, which are just 1.5 years old are getting selfie portrait mode. The OnePlus 6 was the first this year to get a software-backed portrait mode and now a new announcement on OnePlus Open Ear forums says it will be available on both former flagships.
OnePlus 5/5T: Selfie Portrait Mode
Both the OnePlus 5 and 5T came with a hardware-backed portrait mode on the rear camera. And even the OnePlus 6 had it. And despite the front not having a secondary depth sensor, OnePlus will employ algorithms like Google Pixel 2 to achieve it.
OnePlus has been considerably open to user feedback in the recent months. The fast face unlock feature and support for Project Treble updates on the OnePlus 5, 5T is also part of that user feedback. There’s no exact date for when to expect the feature but since the announcement is made, it should roll out in the coming weeks.
All the three latest OnePlus devices have the same 16MP front camera configuration. So, we expect similar results in terms of performance from the sensor. If you have a OnePlus 5, 5T, you can grab the latest beta from the forums to get the latest features.
