At the launch of the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro, Szymon Kopec, Product Lead at OnePlus, announced that OxygenOS will be getting a few extra features, especially for India. And well, we finally have a word on what these will be. The features will be rolling out in the Open Beta build of OxygenOS at the end of June, first to the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T smartphones. This includes Work-life Balance, a Smart SMS app, Caller Identification, OnePlus Roaming, and Cricket Scores.
Much like Truecaller, caller identification will be integrated into the dialer app, so you’ll be able to identify unknown callers before answering the call. The company also states that it will be able to recognize and label spam calls from businesses and also legitimate calls from businesses, such as a service call from OnePlus service center.
Any fans of Microsoft’s SMS Organizer? Well, OnePlus’ latest feature, Smart SMS, is set to remove the need for you install a third-party app. With Smart SMS, OnePlus will automatically organize your SMSes and present them in a format more accessible to you, making things far more productive. For instance, OTPs, transactions and promotion SMSes will be automatically grouped into separate categories within the app. Or, suppose you get a movie ticket confirmation. The SMS for it will be formatted to clearly highlight the name of the movie, your seat number, venue, time, etc.
Then there’s work-life balance. And no, this is not like your Digital Wellbeing. Instead, it lets you set your work and leisure timings and also choose which apps should be blocked from sending notifications during that time. Basically, you will different profiles for when you’re at work and for when you’re at home. For instance, you can choose to block notifications from social apps during your workday and vice versa. There will also be an in-built monitoring system to help you keep track of how lazy or how hardworking you are.
We had previously talked about OnePlus Roaming and it’s about time that the company addressed it as well. It is said to offer affordable data packs when you travel abroad, in case you don’t want to buy a local SIM card or use international roaming on your home number. You can check out more info on it in the link below.
Last but not least, there are cricket scores. Integrated into the Shelf would be live cricket scores of your favorite teams. OnePlus has tied up with ESPNCricinfo for this feature, which will show you the current big cricket matches being played and you’ll be able to follow the scores in real-time. This is a very neat and clean way to showcase live score without letting it all get into your face.
OxygenOS Beta update
OnePlus claims that all of the aforementioned features will arrive on both the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T around the month of June. However, they will be delivered as part of the Open Beta updates. As of now, there is no word as to when they’d hit the stable channel. Stay tuned to Mr. Phone to get notified of all the buzz in the smartphone world.
