Google I/O kicked off yesterday and the search giant made pretty interesting announcements regarding Android P. But OnePlus had its own interesting announcement to make. Shortly after the Android P announcement at Google’s show, OnePlus declared that it will allow Android P beta installations for the OnePlus 6.
Further, those who wish to get dirty with the beta build will be able to do so on May 16. As per the Developer preview page on the OnePlus website, the download links will be active on May 16 at 9:30 PM. A quick glance at the page also makes us aware of the great features that we can look forward to such as “Display Cutout Support”, “Rich notifications”, and the ability to “Stream simultaneously using two or more cameras”. Another interesting feature is Project Treble support that will come with the Android P beta build. That makes the OnePlus 6 one of the few devices to support Treble.
As for the OnePlus 5T/5, they won’t be getting the latest Android P goodness until later this year, the company announced. The OnePlus 6 launch is right around the corner and a huge number (135,000) of reviewers have signed up to under “The Labs” program to test the device prior to launch. Those who do get the review units will eventually also be the first ones to test Android P.
Do note that the beta build is not recommended who want stable daily drivers or aren’t aware of the setup process. For such people, caution is advised. OnePlus 6 users interested in trying out Android P beta can head here.
