OnePlus 6T launched: brings an in-display fingerprint scanner with a waterdrop notch

OnePlus has finally taken the wraps off the OnePlus 6T at its event in New York. The device has turned out to be pretty much what was expected thanks to all the leaks beforehand. While the hardware on the 6T is pretty much the same as the OnePlus 6, the highlights of the new device are the smaller notch and the in-display fingerprint scanner.

OnePlus 6T: What’s New

The OnePlus 6T comes with a smaller waterdrop notch at the top. It houses the three-in-one ambient/distance/RGB sensor and the selfie shooter. The 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display offers a 2340×1080 resolution with a 86% screen-to-body ratio. Speaking about the display, it also packs in the latest Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

The fingerprint scanner on the rear side has been dropped in favor of an in-display fingerprint scanner. Screen Unlock, as OnePlus calls it, is one of the fastest in-display fingerprint scanners out there. Additionally, Screen Unlock can also be used as a quick app launcher.

As confirmed by Carl Pei previously, the OnePlus 6T has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack. There is, however, a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter in the box. Moreover, the OnePlus 6T now comes with a beefier 3,700mAh battery. The OnePlus 6T ships with OxygenOS 9 based on Android 9 Pie. It is pretty much the same OS as seen on the OnePlus 6.

Apart from this, the hardware of the OnePlus 6T is still the same. It comes with the Snapdragon 845 SoC along with 6/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage. However, unlike every “T” variant previously introduce, the OnePlus 6T features the same camera setup as the OnePlus 6. It houses a 16MP+20MP dual camera setup on the back. There is a 16MP f/1.7 sensor on the front for selfies hidden inside the notch.

New OnePlus Type-C Bullets

During the launch of the OnePlus 6T, the Chinese company also announced the new Type-C Bullet earphones. The earphones pack in a dedicated DAC from Cirrus Logic for enhanced sound capabilities. The OnePlus Type-C Bullets will retail at a price tag of $19.95 (~Rs. 1,500).

OnePlus also stated that they will be rolling out a red colored variant of the OnePlus Wireless Bullets to mark the 5th-anniversary of the company, later this year.

New OnePlus Explorer Backpack

OnePlus has also launched an all-new Explorer Backpack alongside the OnePlus 6T. The Explorer Backpack has been made using tear and scuff resistant Cordura classic fabric for enhanced endurance. It comes with a single zipper and a fold-over cover with a premium magnetic Fidlock designed to provide extra security. The new backpack will be available in two color options– Slate Black and Morandi Green. The new OnePlus Explorer Backpack will be available for a price tag of $99 (~Rs. 7,200). However, do note that the backpack will be available for purchase only via an invitation code.

OnePlus 6T Pricing and Availability

The device will be available in just two color options – Mirror Black and Midnight Black. The prices for the OnePlus 6T start at $549 (~Rs. 40,000) for the 6+128GB variant, $579 (~Rs. 42,500) for the 8+128GB variant, and $629 (~Rs. 46,000) for the 8+256GB variant.
