Oppo’s online-only sub-brand Realme has today unveiled its first ever product, the Realme 1 in India. The handset that will be exclusively sold on Amazon India has been brought into existence to battle the Redmi/Redmi Note series of Xiaomi both in name and ideals. Word had gotten out that the handset would be priced in the Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 bracket, a sweet spot for mid-range smartphone buyers in the country.
Doing a quick rundown of the basic components, the handset does pack a punch in many areas. The screen is just the right size for millennials with a 6.0-inch panel IPS panel. To top that, it doesn’t have a notch and sports an 18:9 aspect ratio with 2160 x 1080p resolution. That’s pretty standard for mid-range these days but there’s more. The guts of the Realme 1 hold a spanking new Mediatek Helio P60 at a never seen price. This is coupled with a powerful 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage that makes it an ultimate Redmi Note 5 killer. There are two lower-end variants as well, a 4GB + 64GB and a 3GB + 32GB variant.
On paper, the Realme 1 has just a single 13MP rear shooter and an 8MP front selfie shooter. This could probably be the only drawback of the handset. However, that would be clear only after an in-depth review.
Furthermore, the dual SIM handset runs the latest Android 8.1 Oreo painted/tainted with Color OS 5.0. As an added advantage, it features a dedicated micro SD card slot, so you can use it with two SIMs as well. Moreover, the dual SIMs are capable of dual VoLTE. Remarkably, Oppo has bravely omitted the fingerprint reader and delivered just a solo face unlock method. This could be a potential implementation which might backfire. All this powerful package is backed by a 3,400mAh battery.
The Oppo Realme is priced at an awesome Rs 13,990 for the 6GB variant. The 4GB variant costs Rs 10,999, and the 3GB variant costs Rs 8,990. It comes in an eye-catching Diamond Black colour and a hot Solar Red colour. The first sale takes place on 25th May.
