Realme, Oppo’s sub-brand, has had a fantastic year in the country. After launching a slew of devices such as the Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme C1, and the Realme 2 Pro, it has already gained the trust of the consumers. It is now gearing up to launch the Realme U1, the first device with the Helio P70 SoC. What’s more is that the company has been slowly but effectively listening to the user feedback as well. As such, it has come up with another big announcement which will let users unlock their device bootloaders.

As announced by Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme mobiles, Realme will soon be releasing the kernel source for the Realme 1. It will allow the users to unlock the device’s bootloader in the first quarter of 2019. As for the Realme 2 Pro users, the unlock options will be made available before January 15, 2019.
Opens door to new opportunities
Now, I’m sure most of you must be wondering how does it help us? Well, with the ability to unlock your device’s bootloader, you will finally be able to install a custom recovery and/or get root access. Additionally, it allows you to install mods such as the Google Camera mod on your device, quite easily. Lastly, if you hate the ColorOS that the device comes with, there’s good news there as well. With kernel sources out there, it opens the door to custom ROM development as well. As such, you would be able to replace ColorOS with a cleaner stock Android ROM as well.
