UPDATE – Redmi 5 is highly unlikely to come up with the Snapdragon 625 processor since this SoC doesn’t support the 18:9 aspect ratio! The device will be the first Redmi device with this trending ratio and hence, Snapdragon 450 is the most probable processor for it!
Xiaomi has been ruling the Indian smartphone market with pocket-friendly and impressive devices. The Redmi Note 4 recently received a permanent price cut and became the top-selling phone in India! The next in line is the Redmi 5 and we have already seen its recent leaks! The device was first listed on TENAA and now it has surfaced on the internet again, thanks to a Chinese Telecom company!
The Redmi 5 looks pretty identical to the Redmi Note 4’s Snapdragon variant. The device is graced with smaller bezels than its predecessor and has a metal body with plastic caps on its back (top and bottom). The screen of the device is larger than any other Redmi phone and if you are into big screens, this device is definitely a must-have for you!
The Redmi 5 will be the first Redmi phone ever to have an 18:9 aspect ratio and that is a major upgrade indeed. The phone will boast of a 5.7″ screen with a resolution of 1440×720 pixels. The phone will run on MSM8953 Lite SoC, which is commonly known as the Snapdragon 625. The processor has “lite” in its name because it is clocked at 1.8 GHz unlike the 2 GHz of Snapdragon 625!
The phone will carry a combination of 4 GB RAM+ 64 GB ROM. The in-house storage will be expandable up to 128 GB and there is a separate microSD card for the same.
Redmi 5 is a mystery when it comes to its main camera sensor and nothing is known as of now. However, the selfie snapper will have a 5MP sensor, just like the other Redmi phones! The Redmi 5 will also be graced with a fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB 2.0 port and dual sim slots.
The only aspect where the device shows a speck of doubt is the battery. Redmi 5 will be launched with a 3,300mAh battery which is much smaller than Redmi Note 4. With such a big display at its disposal, the battery performance is a dicey affair.
The Redmi 5 will run Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 220.127.116.11 on top and will receive an upgrade to MIUI 9 soon after its launch. The device will be unveiled on December 10, allegedly.
Mi Mix 2 just received the update to MIUI 9! Read the full report here.
