There were early rumours in January this year when Redmi was going to be announced as a separate smartphone brand that it could one day launch a flagship-level performing smartphone. If you through my previous articles on the Redmi as a separate brand, the primary reason why I thought this was a good idea; a potential to introduce a flagship smartphone. And hey look, that’s what Redmi might end up doing, a Redmi flagship smartphone.
Redmi Flagship: Could it be real?
The newly born sub-brand of Xiaomi might be getting ready to announce its Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC powered a smartphone. There are all kinds of crazy specifications and pricing Xiaomi can introduce with its new sub-brand. As far as we know, the Redmi moniker has stood up for offering exceptional performance at affordable pricing. The next step could be a flagship level performance.
This information comes from Lu Weibing, who was recently appointed as the Head of the new Redmi brand. In his Weibo post, the newly appointed head conducted a meeting with Xiaomi’s R&D at Shenzhen discussing their next line of products. There was a mention of Redmi Note 7 Pro and a Snapdragon 855 SoC powered smartphone. Both of these handsets are not yet announced, which the latter has been mentioned the first time.
It would be safe to say that with POCO F1, Xiaomi has achieved something unexpectable, a new ultra-affordable flagship level smartphone. And with its yet another sub-brand, Redmi, the company could be targeting a different set of users altogether. Let’s there is something to look forward to the Redmi brand if it wants to come out of Xiaomi’s shadow as an affordable mid-range line-up.
But so to speak, it would be interesting to see POCO and Redmi compete with each other, as the Vivo and OPPO do in India and China. As of know, there is nothing concrete about any of this, which is why it we ask you to take this information with a pinch of salt. What do you guys think of the Redmi flagship smartphone?
