The K stands for Killer in the upcoming Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro

Redmi Smartphone - Feature Image-2

There have long been talks of Xiaomi’s subbrand Redmi working on its flagship smartphone. Rumors about a Redmi phone with Snapdragon 855 have been around for a while now. While it was confirmed earlier that the phone would launch later this month, there hasn’t been any info on what it would be called. It was earlier speculated to be referred to as the Redmi X, similar to the upcoming Realme X. However, that was later ruled now. Now, new reports suggest that Redmi will be launching not one but two flagship devices, called the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro. Also, there is a word from the company as to what this “K” stands for.

Update 14/5/2019: The “K” stands for Killer

Following the confirmation of the smartphones’ names, many people had questioned the logic behind the K series. In response, Redmi’s General Manager Lu Weibing took to Weibo to talk about the new range. He states that the K stands for Killer, and the Redmi K-series smartphones will be the flagship killer.

Now, where have we seen that tagline used before…

Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro specifications

Thanks to renowned tipster Ishan Agarwal, we know that Xiaomi would be launching two new Redmi flagships named Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. Both the devices are said to come equipped with the flagship Snapdragon 855 SoC. The leaked specifications suggest that the devices could come with a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen without a notch. You’d get about four variants to choose from with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal storage. There will also be a 32MP pop-up selfie camera.

Other than that, the devices are said to feature a triple camera setup at the back, comprising of a 48MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 16MP telephoto lens. Also, the entire setup will be juiced by a 4,000mAh battery. Lastly, recent reports also confirmed that the device will come with support for Android Q Beta at launch. It could debut in Red, Blue, and Carbon Fibre color variants.

Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro release date

As of now, it is not clear as to what’s the difference between the two variants. We’d have to wait for the official launch to find that out, which will happen sometime later this month. Also, an added incentive for Indian users to be excited about this is that one of the two variants would be launched as the Poco F2 later in India.
