Xiaomi has finally launched the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro in India today. We can even go on to call these phones a valentine’s gift from the company. The phones have arrived as the successors to the popular Redmi Note 4. They are exclusive to Flipkart and mi.com. The phones are the first Xiaomi devices to have launched this year.
Redmi Note 5 – specs, features and price
The Redmi Note 5 is the direct successor to the Redmi Note 4 and in all honesty, isn’t much different from the same. It comes with a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with an HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160p. The device has round corners and an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The bezels on the top, bottom and sides are minimum and the pixel density of the phone is 403ppi. It comes with a Dual Pyrolytic Graphite Sheet to keep the phone running cool even under stress.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, clocked at 2.0GHz powers the device while the GPU on the phone is Adreno 506. The phone comes in two variants – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM and another with 64GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. The native storage is expandable via microSD card.
The optics on the phone contain a 12MP rear camera sensor with a pixel size of 1.25µm and f/2.2 aperture. The selfie snapper of the phone contains a 5MP sensor with an LED selfie light and Beautify 3.0. The phone is capable of recording 1080p @ 30fps videos.
As far as SIM connectivity is concerned, the device carries a hybrid Dual SIM slot. It also supports GSM 2/3/5/8, WCDMA 1/2/5/8, FDD-LTE 1/3/5, and TDD-LTE 40/41. The phone has a massive 4000mAh battery with a 5V/2A charging. The fingerprint sensor resides on the rear panel beneath the camera setup. The device weighs 180g.
The Redmi Note 5 runs Android Nougat out-of-the-box-based MIUI 9. It comes in four colours – Gold, Rose Gold, Black and Blue. The phone has been launched at a price of Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,999 for the 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM variant respectively.
Redmi Note 5 Pro – specs, features and price
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is heavier on the hardware and the fastest Redmi Note ever. The phone carries the same 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with an HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160p. The aspect ratio of this phone is also 18:9 and it can be called as a nearly bezel-less device. The corners of the Note 5 Pro and the company believes that it makes the device more comfortable to hold. The display of the phone has a 450-nit maximum brightness and the colour contrast ratio of 1500:1.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, clocked at 1.8GHz runs the show on this device with Kyro 260 CPU and Adreno 506 GPU. It is the first phone in the world with this processor. The Note 5 Pro comes in two variants – first with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM, and second with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. The third variant is a brand new addition to the Redmi phones.
The device boasts of a dual rear camera setup with 12MP + 5MP sensors with an aperture of f/2.2 and f/2.0 respectively. The selfie shooter on the phone has a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with an LED selfie light and Beautify 4.0. The phone is capable of recording 1080p @ 30fps videos.
The SIM connectivity options on the phone are similar to the Redmi Note 5 and it also has a hybrid Dual SIM slot. The battery capacity of the phone is 4000mAh with a support for 5V/2A charging. The Redmi Note 5 Pro also runs Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 and weighs 181g.
The device is priced at Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM one, and Rs 16,999 for the 6GB RAM one.
