Ever since Xiaomi made Redmi a separate brand, things have been pretty good for the company. They recently launched the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro in the country. Both the devices have been selling crazily. That said, the idea behind Redmi was to focus on budget offerings. Now, if recent reports are to be believed, the company is said to be working on the Redmi Pro 2. And to be honest, it is more like a flagship than a budget offering.
Redmi Pro 2 leaks
A Redmi smartphone named Redmi Pro 2 has surfaced online on Weibo. Reportedly, it seems to have a pop-up front-facing camera. The phone has a notch-less and hole-less display. Additionally, leaked renders suggest a triple camera setup at the back of the device. This will, in fact, be a first for the Chinese company. Previous reports have indicated the phone will come with a 48-megapixel camera sensor from Sony on the back side, along with two other sensors. This is the same camera sensor that is used in the Redmi Note 7 Pro smartphone.
What’s more, is that the Pro model of the smartphone will also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Interestingly, that is another first feature for the company. However, the most interesting factor here is that the rumor mill suggests that the device will also come with the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC under the hood. Now, this certainly deviates from the original idea that led to Redmi becoming a separate entity. Moreover, this could ultimately spell problems for Xiaomi as a whole, since the Redmi Pro 2 could go head to head with the Poco F2. It is expected that the Poco F2 would come with the Snapdragon 855 as well, at a very competitive price. As such, its possible that Xiaomi is practically just competing with its own sub-brands.
Redmi Pro 2 launch date
