Xiaomi recently issued a cryptic teaser for a product launch on May 10 with a giant S on its Weibo. This obviously led to general confusion as to which product was nearing release. Two primary suspects were the Redmi S2 and Xiaomi’s in-house Surge S2 SoC. However, it now turns out, the mystery product to be revealed on May 10 is the Redmi S2. Xiaomi has cleared the air once and for all today on its Redmi Mobile Weibo account.
Furthermore, according to Gizmochina, the new S series stands for selfies and is intended to rival Oppo and Vivo. However, this is one possibility and not a confirmation for the 16MP selfie-camera Redmi S2. The upcoming phone’s detailed specifications were exposed by XDA recently when they got hold Redmi S2’s firmware files.
The most recent official look of the phone is through the above teaser in which Chinese actor Liu Haoran holds the phone. We know a lot about the handset as it sits in a Mi Store in the Czech Republic in plain daylight. The Redmi S2 rocks a 5.99-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Inside, the Snapdragon 625 will be the brains of the phone while 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM variants are expected. Storage options are aplenty with reports of 16GB/32GB/64GB models.
As for the rear cameras, current info suggests 12MP + 8MP versions while other reports suggest a 12MP + 5MP shooter. Either way, we’ll find out the truth on May 10. Are you excited?
