Bezel-less and 18:9 was the whole rage of 2017. Almost all prominent smartphone makers came up with devices having bezel-less displays. But, these features are currently more reserved to the high-end spectrum. Yes, LG did come up with the Q6 but, that was it! Nobody else was interested in doing that in 2017. Now that 2017 is moving towards its end, 2018 is going to be a year in which we’ll see those bezel-less displays slowly trickling down to the mid-range and probably the budget segment.
Newly leaked renders of Samsung’s upcoming A-series (2018) devices feature a bezel-less, 18:9 display just like S8, S8+ and Note 8. Their A-Series of smartphones lies in the premium mid-range category, acting as a bridge between mid-range J-series and the flagship S-series. As of now we do not know if the device shown in the image is Galaxy A3, A5 or A7 (2018), but chances are all of those phones will look identical to one another, and the differences between them will come down to screen size and battery capacity.
The leaked render shows both front and back of the device. The display has rounded corners, just like their flagship counterparts but, they are more likely to feature a flat display unlike curved ones on Galaxy S8 or S8+. These devices will also ditch the iconic home button to make room for that tall display. This means the capacitive buttons are also saying goodbye. A-series (2018) devices might feature a curved glass back and a metallic frame. The fingerprint scanner is moved to the back, placed below the camera, which is a more convenient position compared to S8, S8+ or Note 8.
Interestingly enough, the renders show a dual camera setup on the front and a single camera on the back. If they are to be believed, this would be Samsung’s first set of devices to feature dual selfie cameras. The power button and volume rockers are located on the left side and the dedicated Bixby button resides on the right side. A-series (2018) smartphones are more likely to come with the IP68 dust and water resistance and USB Type-C port since the A-series (2017) devices already have them.
As far as specs are concerned, a recent Geekbench listing of Galaxy A7 (2018) reveals that the device will sport a Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 4GB RAM, 16MP rear camera and will run on Android 7.1 Nougat with Samsung’s Experience UI on top. Take this with a pinch of salt as the details are not officially confirmed and early Geekbench listings may differ from the actual specifications. Samsung is expected to launch their A-series smartphones in January 2018.
These devices look promising for those who want futuristic aesthetics and decent internals without burning a hole in their pocket. What do you think about the leaked renders? Would you be buying one if the leaks come out to be true? Let us know in the comments below.
