Twitter recently rolled out an update using which, you can save your tweets. Today, the Lite version of the social networking app has hit 24 new countries! Countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. The Lite version of Twitter is only 3MB in size and works seamlessly on 2G and 3G networks. If you’re temporarily out of coverage for some minutes, this version of the app puts you in Offline Mode so that you never miss anything!
Twitter Lite follows Facebook’s suit as it has an option of playing only those videos which are selected by a user. Unlike the original version, not every image or video will load until you wish to see it and click on it.
Jesar Shah, Product Manager at Twitter wrote in a blog post, “In April, we launched Twitter ‘Lite’, a new mobile web experience that minimises data usage, loads quicker on slower connections, and is more resilient on unreliable mobile networks.”
Since its launch in Phillipenes, Twitter Lite has seen an exponential increase in the number of tweets. The app’s engagement stats have shown a growth of 50% in the number of tweets sent by the Lite version of the app.
Shah also expressed how this action is data-driven since this version received a lot of valuable feedback from the users. In her words, “Through on-the-ground user research and Play Store reviews, we received a lot of valuable feedback. Based on these positive results, we have decided to bring it to more people around the world.”
