After a week of the launch of Apple’s newest iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X, Apple released the OS that powers these new devices to its already existing devices. Yes, iOS 11 is now available for your iPods, iPads, and iPhones.
Which devices are eligible for the iOS 11 update, you ask? Here’s a list of Apple devices that can be upgraded to iOS 11.
Now you know if your device would be updated. Apart from this, you can also go to Settings -> General -> Software Update, and find out if your device is eligible for the software update.
A good rule of thumb before upgrading to a new version on any device is to backup the current version and files of your device beforehand. You can open iTunes on your Mac/PC to backup your current Apple device which is due for an upgrade.
If you are updating directly from your iPhone, you should have around 2 GB of storage space on your device. While I did not have that much free space, Apple suggested to uninstall an application and install it once the update is finished. So for me, the software update asked me and uninstalled Garageband (an application around 2 GB) and then installed it once the update was finished. I found that suggestion really impressive.
Now when you have backed up your device, and freed up storage space for the iOS 11, the time has come to finally update your device.
You can choose to update your device from your Mac/PC or directly from your iPhone/iPad/iPod. To update, go to Settings -> General -> Software Update and update your phone to the new iOS 11.
Now, sit back and relax while your Apple device becomes one with iOS 11.
