iQOO to launch first phone with SD865, 5G-capability in India in February

Vivo iQOO - Feature Image

iQOO (pronounced I-KOO), which was launched as a sub-brand of vivo last year in China is coming to India as a completely separate entity. The new brand will reportedly be the first to launch a premium smartphone with class-leading SD865 and 5G-capability in India. The phone will also have some sort of class-leading battery technology. If we have to venture a guess, it could be Vivo’s crazy fast 120W fast charging tech showcased last year.

iQOO – What to expect?

This phone will be an India-first launch across the world and the brand aims to make industry-first, future-ready phones for a premium audience. There’s no word yet on the exact date or the pricing of the phone.

Talking to journalists at a closed-door briefing, Gagan Arora, Director-Marketing, iQOO confirmed that the phone will be made available across channels but will start with an online channel first. The company is still in discussions with Amazon and Flipkart about an association. Most importantly, Arora clearly highlighted that iQOO is a completely independent brand and vivo will be a competitor.

Unlike vivo, iQOO will have its headquarters in Bangalore and is currently an 80-member strong team with expansion plans underway. Arora also confirmed that iQOO phones will be manufactured in Vivo’s Noida-factory as a shared facility. He also assured that iQOO will have independent service centers without divulging much.

It will interesting to see how iQOO prices the phone and sells the idea of 5G to Indian consumers where the 5G tech doesn’t exist. Furthermore, we can safely assume that iQOO will compete with OnePlus this year.
