Vivo has established itself as the one brand that values innovation. After introducing the in-display fingerprint scanner in the X21 and the pop-up selfie camera in the Nex last year in India, Vivo has decided to make it more accessible this year.
2019-welcome the V15 Pro. A phone that introduces the combined technologies of the pop-up selfie camera and the in-display fingerprint scanner. That’s not it though, this is the world’s first smartphone to use the high-resolution 32MP ISOCELL Bright GD1 sensor in the selfie camera.
Let’s talk a little more about this 32MP selfie camera.
V15 Pro’s pop out selfie camera captures great details with HDR
The first thing you need to know about the 32MP sensor is that this 1/2-inch sensor has a pixel size of 0.8-micron. At default, it shoots at an 8MP resolution at 1.6-micron pixel size, thanks to pixel binning.
What this means is that at 8MP you get extremely crisp and detailed shots. Take a look at the same selfies in 8MP and 32MP below. And yes, Vivo also lets you shoot at 32MP using the front camera.
Now, another thing that the GD1 sensor enables is the fact that you get HDR for the front camera as well. This enables a high dynamic range selfie that doesn’t blow out the background or clip the highlights. To explain in simple terms, you can see the details in the background without it looking washed out. The selfie below is a clear example of that feature.
The AI Beauty mode can make look like a ramp walk model
The V15 Pro’s selfie camera has a very elaborate AI mode that lets you do granular control of multiple aspects of your face. From controlling your skin tone to changing the structure of your jaw, the AI Beauty mode is extremely elaborate and does a clean job too. We have a couple of selfies below that showcase how can use this feature smartly to create a selfie that will light up your Instagram profile.
Portrait Lighting effects can light up your face in unique ways
While the AI Beauty mode will find a lot of takers, it is the Portrait Lighting effects that we like more. There are six cool portrait lighting modes namely: Natural Light, Studio Light, Stereo Light, Loop Light, Rainbow Light, and Monochrome Background. Each one of these modes recreates the effect of different lighting effects using the software. And, just look at the pictures below. Don’t they look good? Our favourite is the Loop Light effect. Which one is yours?
It has augmented reality stickers for some fun too
One of the coolest feature set for the Snapchat and Tik Tok generation is the in-built Augmented Reality-based stickers that you get in the default camera app. We found that the AR mode, thanks to the Snapdragon 675 SoC with AI engine inside, does a superb job of tracking your face. There are quite a few stickers that you can use for still pictures and a couple for videos as well. Honestly, these are super fun to use and we can see ourselves using them often.
V15 Pro is really redefining the selfie game
So, that was a quick look at the V15 Pro’s very capable 32MP selfie camera. There is no doubt that the phone can capture great selfies but it also packs a large set of features that help you bring some variety to your selfies.
