Xiaomi has finally announced the Redmi 5A in China. Lately, we’ve been seeing a number of leaks and rumors regarding the device. Even today, hours before the launch, a leaked poster of Redmi 5A surfaced online. Redmi 5A is the successor to the popular entry-level smartphone Redmi 4A. Though it is a follow up to the Redmi 4A, nothing much has changed here – both internally and externally.
Specifications and Features of Redmi 5A
Redmi 5A features a polycarbonate back panel with a metallic finish. It is available in 3 color variants – Champagne Gold, Cherry Powder and Platinum Silver Grey. Just like its predecessor, there is no fingerprint scanner on the successor of Redmi 4A, which is okay considering the price point of the device. The device measures 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.35mm and weighs 137g.
Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch LCD display with 1280×720 resolution and a pixel density of 296 pixels per inch. Under the hood, there is a quad-core Snapdragon 425 Soc clocked at 1.4GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It comes with a hybrid SIM solution which accepts either 2 Nano SIMs or a Nano SIM + a microSD card (up to 128GB). The device is powered by a 3000mAh battery which Xiaomi claims to last 8 days on standby. A Micro-USB port is present at the bottom for charging and data syncing.
The handset comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture coupled with an LED flash and a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. The camera app supports various enhancements like real-time filters, burst mode, panorama mode, HDR mode, etc. It supports video recording up to 1080p 30fps. Redmi 5A runs MIUI 9 on top of Android Nougat out of the box.
On the connectivity front, Redmi 5A supports 4G with VoLTE, 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, GPS, AGPS, GLONASS and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It features all necessary sensors along with an IR Blaster.
Pricing and Availability
Xiaomi Redmi 5A is priced at CNY 599 (Rs. 6,000) and will be available for pre-orders starting Monday in China.
Redmi 5A doesn’t bring any changes when compared to its predecessor. For instance, Redmi 4A comes with a 5-in HD display with Snapdragon 425 SoC along with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable) and a 3120mAh battery. It had a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. You can check out the complete specifications here.
