A new report by XDA has just revealed that Xiaomi is indeed going to bring a Snapdragon 845 device to India soon. However, if you think we’re talking about the Mi 8 or the Mi Mix 2s, you would be wrong. The new device is codenamed “Beryllium” as per reported findings from XDA. The developer forum got hold of some firmware files that contained some specs concerning the particular handset.
Now, there were two particular hints on the firmware that suggested an Indian debut. One is a method called “isIndiaBeautyFilter” and the other is a method called “getDualCameraWaterMarkFilePathVendor”, found in the camera app. Both these methods check a build property called “ro.boot.hwc” that returns true only if it’s “India.” Both these findings suggest that the new mystery handset is surely headed to India. The findings also revealed a number of other aspects of the phone. Refer to them below.
|CPU||Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU|
|Display||LCD with notch. 18:9 aspect ratio.|
|Storage||No SD card slot|
|Battery||4,000 mAh battery|
|Software||Android 8.1 Oreo|
|Fingerprint||Yes, but not in-display|
|Camera||Dual cameras. Optical zoom support.|
As regards the identity of the phone, XDA’s point of view is that it could be a completely new device under the POCOPHONE brand that was trademarked by Xiaomi recently. A handset of the same trademark trespassed the FCC giving the impression that Xioami might enter the US under a completely new subsidiary.
That said, the report does point out that the firmware files used as proof here are as old as of March 2018. There is a possibility that some of the specs found might not actually make it to ‘ this mysterious “Beryllium” device still under development.
