Xiaomi has finally launched its highly anticipated smartphone Mi Mix 2 in India. They have already stated that Mi Mix 2 will be Xiaomi’s 2017 flagship for the country. Actually, we haven’t seen a high-end smartphone from Xiaomi in India since a long time. The last one was the Mi 5 (that too, just the base variant) which was launched about a year and a half ago. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is priced at Rs. 35,999 and will go on sale in both offline and online stores.
Specifications and Features
Mi Mix 2 comes with a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ (2160 x 1080) resolution, 403 ppi and 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a gorgeous bezel-less design just like its predecessor. The bottom chin, which is thinner than that of its predecessor, houses the front camera and necessary sensors. Xiaomi has also replaced the cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic earpiece with a hidden sound-guided speaker having 50mW power.
It also features a hidden ultrasonic proximity sensor. The back panel, which is made of ceramic curves evenly on all four sides and blends nicely with the Series-7 aluminum alloy frame to create a better in-hand feel. Mi Mix 2 features a USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing and it lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack. Xiaomi does include a 3.5mm to USB Type-C adapter in the box though.
Mi Mix 2 is powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage without any option for memory expansion. Mi Mix 2 is equipped with a 12MP IMX386 sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 1.25µm pixel-size, and 4-axis OIS, at the rear along with an LED flash. A front 5MP camera handles selfie duties. As it is placed at the bottom chin, the phone needs to be rotated 180° every time before taking a selfie, to obtain better results. The rear camera supports video recording up to 4K 30fps. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the rear side below the camera module.
On the connectivity front, Mi Mix 2 comes with Dual-SIM 4G VoLTE, dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS and NFC. The smartphone also has support for 43 network bands, so that it could be used with almost all carriers across the world. It runs Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1 Nougat. Mi Mix 2 packs in a 3400mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.
It measures 151.8×75.5×7.7mm and weighs 185 grams.
Xiaomi has launched only one variant of the Mi Mix 2 in India. It is priced at Rs.35,999. There will be a preview sale on 17th October at 12 pm exclusively on Flipkart. Starting from November first week, the phone will be sold across Flipkart, Mi.com and offline stores across the country.
With the pricing of Rs.35,999, Mi Mix 2 lands right into the territory of the mighty OnePlus 5. Not just the OnePlus 5, Mi Mix 2 has to compete with a number of other devices such as Nokia 8 (upcoming), Honor 8 Pro and LG G6 (discounted price) in India.
