Xiaomi Mi 7 render

Following the successful launches of the Mi 6 and Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi has an array of phones planned for 2018. We are expecting the Xiaomi flagship Mi 7 to hit us in the coming months. As we are approaching Mobile World Congress, rumours about Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphones started to accumulate, but let’s focus on their flagships namely Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus.

Xiaomi Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus – all we know

The Xiaomi Mi 7 is likely to feature a 5.65-inch LED screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Mi 7 Plus, on the other hand, is expected to feature a 6.01-inch OLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Both phones will feature a bezel-less design with a 20MP front-facing camera in the upper right corner.

Both the Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus will feature a glass back, which indicates that these devices will support wireless charging. The Mi 7 will also feature a horizontal dual camera array, while the fingerprint sensor is also reported to be on the back of the device.

The phones were to expected to launch at the MWC 2018 but there are no such chances now.

Various other reports state that both the Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC onboard. Reports also speculate 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage under the hood.

Both devices are said to feature dual-cams, with monochrome+RGB with two-tone LED flash. The same report states that phones may feature AI-enhanced photography, similar to the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro.

The Xiaomi Mi 7 will feature a facial unlock feature, similar to the FaceID of the iPhone X, while both devices will have Android 8.0 Oreo and Miui 9.0 skin out of the box. Both phones will have battery capacities of 3,500 mAh, though we believe that battery on the Mi 7 Plus could be larger.

Xiaomi is likely to launch either the Redmi Note 5 or the Redmi 5 smartphone in India on February 14th.

If the phones are not launched at the MWC 2018, Xiaomi will be adapting methods similar to those of HTC and LG by releasing their latest flashy models after MWC. Could be that reason behind Xiaomi’s move is to avoid being overshadowed by Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+ which will surely take the main stage at MWC?

We would anticipate a launch of the Xiaomi’s Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus around April.

Pricing for the Xiaomi Mi 7 may be a little higher than last year’s flagship, though still cheaper than the likes of Samsung and Apple. Sources state the Xiaomi Mi 7 will start around $475.
