Xiaomi’s bread and butter in India depend on two series. They are the Redmi Note and the Redmi line. The Redmi Note 5 has already launched last month. However, the Redmi series is still pending. Xiaomi has started teasing a new ‘Compact Powerhouse’ on social media. Talk around Indian water coolers is that this is probably a Redmi 5 launch. But, of course, we’re just speculating at this point.
“#CompactPowerhouse is launching on 14th March! Slim, sleek and compact! Yet a true super powerhouse! Guess what this is?”, tweeted Manu Jain, Global VP of Xiaomi India. The image attached to the tweet shows a device with bezels like the Redmi 5. Xioami’s Redmi 5 Plus was launched in the guise of the Redmi Note 5, so this leaves the Redmi 5 as the entry-level budget device which is on shelves in China.
The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is driven by the Snapdragon 450 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz paired with an Adreno 506 GPU. It rocks 2GB/ 3GB/ 4GB of RAM and comes with 16GB/32GB storage options.
The handset features a camera setup similar to the Redmi Note 5 with a 12MP rear shooter and a 5MP front shooter. It comes with a 3300mAh battery. The dimensions are 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7mm and the handset weighs 157g.
