Xiaomi is expected to launch a sequel to its Redmi 5 smartphone tomorrow. However, it also seems likely that there will be other smartphones than the Redmi 6 on stage. Today Xiaomi president Lin Bin finally cleared the dust surrounding the design of at least one of the Redmi 6 series phones.
In the final stages of the last month, we saw live images of a Xiaomi device which featured a notch. This handset also cleared TENAA later on. For now, it is difficult to say which moniker belongs to which, but judging from specs leaked by TENAA, this teaser is showing a Redmi 6A.
Redmi 6/6A Specifications
The Redmi 6A has three variants. The top-end one will get 4GB + 64GB RAM and storage combo, while there is also a 3GB + 32GB combo. The processor hasn’t been named but it is a 2.0 GHz chipset. Speculation is rife that the Redmi 6 will be powered by the brand new Helio P22. This chipset from MediaTek is based on the 12nm process and has support for TensorFlow, Neuropilot, and AI resources.
From what we saw at TENAA, the back of the same handset is home to dual cameras and a fingerprint reader. The screen is expected to be 5.45-inches HD+ resolution. We’re also expecting Android 8.1 Oreo to be on board the phone with MIUI 10.
The launch event is tomorrow and we could very well see more than two models hit the stage. Stay tuned, as we’ll be bringing you the latest from the event.
