Xiaomi Redmi Y2 with 16MP selfie-camera and dual rear cameras is official in India

After teasing its selfie-centric smartphone for the past week, Xiaomi has today unveiled at an event in New Delhi its new Redmi Y2 smartphone. Just like its predecessor, the Redmi Y1, it would be an Amazon-exclusive smartphone. There would be two variants of the device available for purchase. These two variants include 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. They are respectively priced at Rs 9,999 and 12,999. The availability starts from June 12 on Amazon India’s website.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Specifications

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-core processor, it is said to offer great performance as company teased on its social media channels. For users who consume a lot of media, they can expand the storage via microSD card slot. Running on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo enabled MIUI 9.5, it shall be updated to MIUI 10 soon.

Looking at the camera department, it has a dual rear cameras setup which includes a 12MP primary shooter and 5MP secondary snapper. Plus, the selfie-centric experience on its upgraded 16MP lens makes it a great camera package. If you’re someone who is looking for a good camera phone in this budget, then, you might want to consider this.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2

At the launch event, Xiaomi teased the AI-enabled camera capabilities of the phone. The Redmi Y2 introduces Selfie-light, Auto HDR, AI Beautify, and AI portrait selfie. With these modes, you’d able to create beautiful selfies as claimed by the brand.

The display is 720 x 1440 pixel resolution of 5.99-inch sporting an 18:9 aspect ratio for the better viewing experience. The Redmi Y2 is arguably the Indian variant of the Redmi S2 that was released in China last month.  With Redmi Y2, Xiaomi introduces an AI Face unlock processor. The battery capacity on this handset is still same at 3080 mAh capacity battery.
