These days smartphone manufacturers will do anything to stay ahead in the innovation game. One such tactic that I have noticed the companies have been doing is sharing the official statement/press with media even when they are not ready to launch the handset. The last brand to do so was Meizu with its Meizu Zero. Today, Xiaomi has joined the league. Honestly, it’s no surprise with the aggressive marketing the brand is doing for its Redmi Note 7 launch in India.
Xiaomi’s global PR team has released a statement to LetsGoDigital, as per the information popped up on that website, the Xiaomi foldable phone is officially arriving. And the brand claims to be the first in the world to present a double folding smartphone.
Some time ago we saw what Xiaomi’s foldable phone would look like; thanks to its founder for posting a prototype for posting the video showcasing the marvelous tech. From the video, we learn what we may have in store as an early adapter of the tech. But with a release of this statement we now believe that Xiaomi plans to make this tech perfect making it available in the market.
There are some explanations provided which give us some information regarding Xiaomi Foldable Phone. The company seems to have taken help from a supply chain partner to make this flexible folding screen. It was co-developed with an unnamed partner. Further, the brand has shared that apart from the screen tech, which is the primary aspect, the company has developed its design, folding mechanism, and MIUI adaptation on its own.
Let’s talk about the Xiaomi Foldable Phone
Xiaomi seems to consider two names for this prototype; Xiaomi Dual Flex, Xiaomi MIX Flex. Or it could not go with either one. Interestingly, LetsGoDigital has shared 3D renders that gives us a much closer look at high quality, unlike the prototype video showcases.
The device seems to fold on both sides, leaving the middle section to be used when folded. When opened, it will turn into a tablet-screen sized device, ideally to watch videos or work documents, or maybe drawing. There are immense applications that could be used once opened.
Once you see it closely, you will see there are no camera openings on the rear and front. We couldn’t see the centre section, which might be an ideal place for it to be positioned. It could mean one would have to open one or both the flaps to use the camera. Thus, it would make sense to place the camera to off-center to make proper use of the selfie camera.
