Xiaomi has become the top-selling smartphone brand in the Indian market. It became the leading smartphone vendor in fifty Indian cities. The win is a huge affair, all the more since two reports have confirmed it. Canalys and Counterpoint have both declared the Chinese company to be the leader of smartphone brands in India, based on their data.
The company has dethroned the South Korean giant, Samsung. The difference between the two is not too high. However, we must keep in mind that Samsung has been leading since a lot of years and it took Xiaomi just two years to overpower it.
According to Canalys, it has led the fourth quarter of 2017 with twenty-seven percent. Samsung is at twenty-five percent market share, the report says.
Counterpoint has placed the numbers at twenty-five percent for Xiaomi and twenty-three percent for Samsung. The report by this analysis house ponders over the data of two years. The Chinese brand had nineteen percent market share for the longest time while Samsung sat on twenty-four percent of it.
In the last year itself, the company has bridged a considerable gap between its market share numbers and Samsung’s.
Both the companies make more than half of the Indian smartphone market share. This is an achievement in itself.
Canalys’s Rishabh Doshi believes that Xiaomi has achieved this by providing quality devices in the lower price range. Samsung has not been able to conquer the under Rs 15,000 market, whereas that’s the strongest segment for the other.
He claims that Samsung’s R&D and its supply chain expertise will help it in competing with Xiaomi.
Counterpoint has also noted the same thing. Its report states that Xiaomi has shipped thirty-seven percent of the total shipped smartphones in the Rs 15,000 range. This bracket is the fastest growing segment in India as well.
Xiaomi is also planning to open offline stores in India soon. It will be an interesting spectacle indeed.
