The rumour mill had expected ZTE Axon 8 as the successor of this flagship. It is now clear that the phone will be called the Axon 9. The Chinese company announced the discontinued production of the ZTE Axon 7 in November last year. It also mentioned that a worthy successor was in line to replace the former which was launched in 2016.
Although the ZTE Axon 7 is no longer in production, it has recently received the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update. The stable version of this update is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2018.
Cheng Lixin did not mention anything else about the ZTE Axon 9. ZTE is highly popular in China and Lixin said that he would focus on increasing this popularity.
Last week, an unnamed ZTE device was leaked with Android 8.1 Oreo. It was certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. One must note that this version of Android is only available on Google made phones. It means that this mysterious ZTE phone might actually be the ZTE Axon 9.
