Apple brought the notch to this world and Android devices followed. The smartphone world copied the trend to a level where we barely see a leak without the notch. Adding to this trend, ZTE is all set to bring up a device with two notches. It seems to us that the company found it too mainstream to have a single notch and decided to stick with two to make their phone unique. The phone is called Iceberg till now and we’d really love to know your views on it.
The design of this phone is so peculiar that the World Design Guide has accepted its entry. The ZTE Iceberg is competing in the iF World Design which has been founded by Germans to celebrate innovation in design and ergonomics. The phone is competing in the “Product” category.
World Design Guide has posted quite a few pictures of the phone and it from there that we know it. We are not yet sure if the two notches affect the performance and look in a positive or negative way. However, we should appreciate ZTE for trying something like this.
The dual notch design is not the only thing which brought the ZTE Iceberg to the iF World Design. The efforts and engineering gone into the making of the phone are commendable. For instance, the phone doesn’t use a metal plate to connect the glass panel on the back to its display. ZTE has used a special “glass connection” technology. The phone looks like a single slab of ice, and this may be the reason behind its name.
The four transparent corners of the phone let us have a sneak peek at the glass connection technique. Doesn’t it look ethereal?
The ZTE Iceberg has speakers on the front and a support for wireless charging. The notch functionality is described by the company thus, “It also features a new type of notch screen so that both sides of screen can realize the interactive function of the system, which is convenient and quick.”
The phone took quite a time to get manufactured and the company plans on selling it in Asia, Europe and North America. It can be released next year, most probably at MWC 2019. We do not know anything about the specs of this phone as of now. However, you can expect top-notch specs with an expensive price tag. Is ZTE Iceberg the quirkiest phone that you have seen?
